Employment and Career Opportunities

The PhD program supports the academic career path; the training acquired enables graduates to practice law in all fields, and specifically in civil, criminal, administrative, European, comparative, commercial and transport, tax, and labor law.
The curriculum “Legal goods and social inequalities” - starting from the study of digital, environmental, bioeconomic, and cultural goods - provides specific skills related to new technologies and environmental issues, creating professional profiles increasingly sought after both by public administrations and private enterprises.
The PhD program prepares candidates for competitive examinations for positions as officials within the Institutions of the European Union and other international bodies and organizations; it grants access to the judiciary and notarial competitions; and it constitutes an important qualification for employment opportunities within public administrations, public bodies, and private companies.
The program also enables candidates to acquire a working method based on a multidisciplinary approach with a strong international orientation.
The focus on technology and Artificial Intelligence allows doctoral candidates to acquire the skills necessary to become lawyers specialized in privacy, cybersecurity, internet law, and intellectual property protection, as well as business consultants, with particular attention to new professions in the digital sphere. The program is also directed toward acquiring the competencies required to hold positions in senior administration or international agencies and organizations, including in relation to specific issues such as computerization and digitalization.
An additional objective of the program is to train researchers and legal professionals capable of managing the complexities of the present time, particularly with regard to the interactions among the various actors involved in the legal definition of the sustainability paradigm, both in the sphere of private activity and in that of public and institutional activity. In the former case, employment opportunities are envisaged in specialized professional firms, for example in the fields of environmental protection, human rights, renewable energy, social enterprise and sustainable finance, privacy protection, and personal data security. With reference to public and institutional activity, employment opportunities are envisaged within public institutions and companies, independent authorities, and national and international governmental and non-governmental organizations operating in different sectors.
Career opportunities are supported by collaboration agreements concluded by the University with professional associations, public administrations, international organizations and bodies, and enterprises. In particular, PhD graduates in Legal Sciences at UniMe, thanks to the training acquired, have achieved significant professional results. Notably, there are high success rates in competitive examinations for admission to the judiciary, for notarial positions, and for public selection procedures for State prosecutors and lawyers. Numerous PhD graduates have also successfully passed public administration competitions for positions as officials. Others have entered academic careers.
